Ah, celebrities... they can sometimes seem like those too-small six-inch stilettos you have to squish your feet into with one of those weird shoe-horn things only to tottle around all night because you can't really walk in them: totally hot but kinda impractical. In our everyday lives, celebrities don't serve much of a purpose other than something to gossip about with our girlfriends in the quadrangle before class. Until now, that is. Welcome to Celeb Dating 101, where learning from Celebs' mistakes is what it's all about.

Lesson Number One:

Recycling is A-OK, at least if you value boys more than your BFFs. Paris and Nicole and Lindsay and Hilary and Stavros and Paris and Joel and here's where it gets a little too tangled to remember who's dating who and who's dated who and so on. The teensy problem that dating a guy who your best friend just broke up with might not make her too happy hasn't stopped the celebrities at all. Note that this may be why we so often read about celeb BFF bust-ups. Maybe not the best idea.

Lesson Number Two:

A moment's shyness is a moment wasted, at least that's what we can learn from the deliriously-in-love Mr Tom Cruise. Surely nobody's forgotten that episode of Oprah? But as sure as that burst of couch-jumping crazy love made us all cringe and point and giggle, he's got the girl. When Katie walked down the aisle, glowing and beautiful in her dress, you can imagine Tom thinking 'Who's the fool now?' So grab an extra straw and ask that boy you've had your eye on if he'd like to share your caramel milkshake, or just sit next to that cute mysterious boy who always sits alone on the bus, and start a conversation. You've got nothing to lose (and love to gain). And anyway, as crazy as we thought Tom was, who wouldn't feel a million bucks after a guy declared his love for you on international TV.

Lesson Number Three:

From the tragic break-up files of last year, first place goes to Rachel Bilson and Adam Brody. 'But they're so cute together!' we cried out in disbelief when it was confirmed that they had indeed broken up. Yes, we all shed a tear or twenty, and it is only now, with distance on our side that we can look back and reflect. And what can we learn from this tragedy? That a relationship that looks fantastic from the outside isn't always so. Sure, you and your boy might have been voted Cutest Couple of 2006, but if you can't share a joke with him anymore, maybe it's time to reassess.

Lesson Number Four:

Speed kills. Well that might be a tad dramatic, but lets take a moment to think about the rushed Hollywood relationships that have ended in tears. When Britney met up with an old friend in Vegas a few years ago, she woke up with not only a huge headache, but a new husband. You must remember how this ended: one quickie divorce and one rich tell-all Mr Jason Alexander. Nicky Hilton had a similar experience: one quickie wedding, one rushed annulment, etc. So taking things slow is a great thing. The awesome cute, smart, funny surfer boy you met at Thursday's party might turn out to be a lazy chain-smoking loser by Monday. And wouldn't you rather find that out before you'd planned what you were going to name the kids you'd have with him in ten years?

Lesson Number Five:

Sexy is not equal to trashy. Boys will not like you more if you wear a low-cut top and a push-up bra. To illustrate this point, we will look again to Britney. Poor thing's been going through a rough spot lately, but let it just be made clear that leaving the house sans underwear does not say 'I'm a nice girl who'd like to dance a little and then maybe call you next week,' but rather it screams 'I am desperate for a man. Now.' Is that what you're trying to say? Thought not. And the new look hasn't done much for Britney's romantic life either.
